Wubin celebrated its centenary on the weekend of the 13 and 14 of September 2008. A large crowd of people travelled back to visit the town and take part in the celebrations. Thanks and congratulations to all the members of the Wubin Progress Association for the organisation of a very successful event.
The day started with a bush breakfast on the site of the old Dalwallinu school on West Dalwallinu Road. |
Smoke from the barbeque rises as people toast bread on an open fire. |
The first event was the opening of the refurbished CWA - Pioneer Women's building and herbarium. Mrs Judy Reudavey chaired proceedings and the cutting of the ribbon was performed by Mrs Helen Cail. With timber salvaged from the demolition of the shire offices in Dalwallinu, Mr Colin Wornes had replaced the verandah, and undertaken other restoration of the building. |
Arthur Street had been steetscaped as part of the preparations for the centenary celebrations. Flowers planted in the new median strip display were in full bloom. |

More flowers... There was also a display of historical items and photographs in the supper room adjacent to the Hall. |
Lunch was enjoyed by all at the Wubin Railway Station. With the railway closed, there were no trains in sight, otherwise it might have meant a quick scamper off the tracks! |
Possibly the largest number of cars ever assembled at one time in the history of Wubin. |
There were a number of static machinery displays, including a variety of vintage windmills, tractors and stationary engines. |

In the afternoon, following lunch at 2:00pm, the Centenary pathway was officially opened. |
The Shire President, Cr Robert Nixon, addressed the crowd. |
The ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted with pioneers Mrs Alma Harris and Mrs Elsie Smith each cutting a ribbon. |

The newest building in Wubin, the Jim Ellison Machinery Shed was officially opened at 3:00pm in the afternoon. Mr Trevor Palmer, chairman of the Wubin Progress Association, led proceedings. |

Part of the display inside the Jim Ellison Machinery Shed. Although the building has not yet been fully completed, some machinery has been moved into the shed. |
Having visited Mr Ellison's property, I know that he still has plenty of other items of machinery which one day will become wonderful exhibits in this museum. |
Later in the evening, there was a meal at the Wubin Sportsground.
The following day, a plaque was unveiled on the rabbit proof fence at Jibberding, followed by a picnic lunch.
